When You Don’t Trust Yourself

A Conversation About the Inner Compass

Client: I just don’t know if I can trust my decision.

Me: What are you afraid will happen?

Client: That I’ll make the wrong choice.

Me: And what would “wrong” mean?

Client: That I’ll regret it. That I’ll disappoint someone. That I’ll miss something better.

Pause there.

How many times have you had this exact internal conversation?

This is not a lack of intelligence.
It’s not weakness.
It’s not spiritual failure.

It’s a nervous system trying to protect you.


The Fear Beneath the Fear

Most second-guessing isn’t about the decision itself.

It’s about:

  • Losing connection

  • Being unsafe

  • Being blamed

  • Being alone in the outcome

So the mind goes into overdrive.

What if?
What if?
What if?

And the more you think, the less clear you feel.


Let’s Slow It Down

Imagine this instead:

Me: If no one were watching… what would you choose?

Client: (long pause) I think I already know.

That pause?
That’s the Inner Compass.

It doesn’t shout.
It doesn’t panic.
It doesn’t spiral.

It feels quieter. Cleaner. Grounded.


Anxiety vs Inner Guidance

Anxiety says:

  • Decide now.

  • Fix it.

  • Prevent everything.

  • Make sure no one is upset.

Inner guidance says:

  • Breathe.

  • You have time.

  • Choose what aligns.

  • You can handle what comes.

One is urgent.
One is steady.

One is loud.
One is anchored.


Try This Today

The next time you feel caught in mental loops, ask:

  1. What am I afraid will happen?

  2. Is that happening right now?

  3. If I felt safe, what would I choose?

Don’t force the answer.

Just create space.

Your Inner Compass works best in space.


A New Definition of Trust

Trusting yourself doesn’t mean you’ll never feel fear.

It means you don’t let fear make the decision.

You can feel the anxiety
and still choose from alignment.

You can hear the “what ifs”
and still move forward.

You are not here to eliminate fear.

You are here to outgrow its authority.

And that changes everything.
