I’m currently reading Carolyn Myss’ Entering the Castle and it’s exciting on so many levels. First of all, many years ago, I studied the works of the mystic, Teresa of Avila and so, it is reminding me of so many deep experiences of long ago. Secondly, Carolyn talks about the soul in ways that I’ve been thinking lately, so it is reinforcing that I am truly ‘listening’ to my own inner knowing.
One of the major gifts of reading this book is that she speaks with such authority and it helps me to see where I do not and ask, Why not?! It’s time to accept and believe in what my own soul is speaking.
I’ve been truly looking at midlife and the midlife transition in particular lately and wondering if it really takes being in midlife to understand some of the concepts I’ve been exploring. I remember studying adult development theories at Columbia University in the AEGIS program that I was part of. I often thought that a lot of the theories left out the soul and only Fowler, of all the theorists, even considered spiritual development. Perhaps this is the needed contribution I can make, having studied all of these theories. So, my first message is that it is time to go beyond mind thinking or even the thought that our minds, or our vibration creates our lives and begin to ask if there is something more. Is the soul’s purpose and soul’s journey always in sync with what we think we want? I doubt it, or we would be instantly manifesting our desires.
What if the soul has another idea for our lives? It is my premise that we come to even ask that question only when things seem to not be working according to our ‘plans’ and life seems to throw us a curve. Or, is it a curve? Life wants to get our attention because IT wants to direct our days, rather than have them directed by outer circumstances and conditions, or even less so, directed by our unfulfilled longings and wounds that need healing.
Our soul is not about healing what went wrong. Our soul is always about what is right with this picture. It is about the gradual realization of who we really are and our ultimate connection with all that is. The soul IS the DIVINE in us, the perfect in us, the piece, if you will, that we are of the whole. HMMM.. More to follow, I am certain…
