The Law of Attraction

This is an article that was written by Walter Starke – one of my favorite authors. Please read and comment below

This year the “The Secret” is sweeping the country. What it refers to as the secret is the Law of Attraction – that our thoughts attract or draw to us what our lives are made up of. The main value in proposing the law of attraction is that it lets people know that they create their own lives, that thoughts take form, that if one desires to change one’s life that person must change how they think, but the law of attraction goes only so far and tends to be a mental activity rather than a spiritual one.

Of the four presenters in The Secret two were motivational speakers who approached the concept objectively and the other two proposed a more subjective spiritual approach.  Almost everything in the program was true from the level it represented, but because the difference between the spiritual and the mental approaches was not defined many have mistakenly thought they were the same.

The law of attraction implies that we attract to us things that previously exist as though they have already been created. Those of the motivation or mental approach believe that one should envision what he or she specifically wants, draw a picture, project a specific amount they want to receive into thought etc.  This is the objective approach. It has a particular object or goal in mind.  What’s more, it works.  It is proved that we can mentally draw to us what we want.  However, such an objective approach is based on one’s ability to judge what is good for them to have and what may be evil.

Someone may want a sporty BMW convertible.  He or she can image it. See how it looks, picture the details, and, sure enough, they may achieve their goal.  They may also drive down to the corner, get in a wreck, and kill themselves.  If intuition backs up one’s judgment it might work out for the best, but the spiritual approach is less fallible.

Surprisingly, today, Quantum Mechanics supports and scientifically explains the spiritual approach that is outlined in the beginning of the Gospel of John, which says, “In the beginning is the word … and the word becomes flesh.” In doing so, Quantum physics proposes that consciousness is the substance of all that is, that consciousness creates everything in our lives rather than it’s having been drawn to us from outside. Thus we do not attract to us, but rather we ourselves create our lives and all that is in them.  We materialize our perceptions.  The quality of the forms our lives take is determined not by what we think superficially but by what we perceive as reality.  Our perceptions manifest our reality.

We, as thinking people, do not know what is needed or in store for our growth and well being.  What we think we want to attract may be the thing that kills us in the end.  On the other hand, when we entertain subjective (spiritual) ideas or ideals and do not outline them in specific terms (objectively), we initiate the same principle that is in the Law of Attraction; however, rather than drawing to us, our divine inner selves creates that which is harmonious and in divine order.

Spiritually, rather than trying to attract a particular person into our lives we set in motion the consciousness of perfect companionship. Subjectively, instead of praying for a thousand dollars we open ourselves to life’s abundance knowing our needs will be well met. Subjectively, instead of trying to draw forth a specific automobile we open our consciousness to the best and most appropriate transportation.

I promise you, if we trust the process and set subjective goals for ourselves we will be shown how to create them or they will appear, and will do so without any down side.  That which will appear will be the result of our trust in the process and our perception.  It is all God.

WITH FORGIVENESS

I would like to make you aware of a beautiful project that is beginning today. It’s something we feel each and every one of us can relate to – forgiveness. Two very special women: Sheri Rosenthal, DPM and Susyn Reeve M.Ed. have created an experience that we can all participate in and learn from.

Law of Attraction – The Practice of PEACE

How do we practice peace? I call it nonviolent living and here again we can go on forever – individually, in our relationships, and in our world. What about nonviolent living with ourselves? How many of us are living driven? We’ve got to get this done, we’ve got to do that thing, and the world is going to end if this doesn’t happen… Can you see how that’s violence? We are doing violence to ourselves. We were never meant to live at the pace that our modern society is calling us to live. Let’s think about that.
We have all these modern conveniences that are making it twice as hard for us to live at times. What is this about? Think about it. We have to acquire them and we have to maintain them. We have to do all these extra things. I think our forefathers gave us something challenging in the pursuit of happiness, because that’s what we do – pursue it continually – instead of accepting that it already is. I constantly say to people and to myself, if amassing all these things, and getting all these things done were really
important and you were to die today, what would you take with you? What’s really important? Where is your energy going?

What about all the over-indulgence in whatever it is? It’s doing violence to ourselves. What about putting ourselves down? Most of us do violence to ourselves in the way we talk about ourselves, in the way we deal with ourselves, instead of seeing ourselves as the very expression of God. How would you treat someone if you knew that right through your front door was coming God Itself right now? What would you do? How would you treat God? How would you experience God? That’s the Truth about who you and I
are. If it’s the Truth that we are individualized expressions of God, then why aren’t we treating ourselves as such? Look at the way we put ourselves down and find ways of making ourselves wrong.

In that chatter that says, not enough, you should be doing this. What’s wrong with that? Why isn’t this happening? Anybody else have that going on? Peace, the practice of peace, is looking in the mirror every day and saying, “I love you exactly as you are.” It’s a very interesting practice. If you haven’t done it for a while, do it for a week. Look in the mirror and say, “I love you just the way you are.” Let it be God’s voice – that Christ nature that’s trying to break through. Let the Buddha nature within
you, let your higher self within you, tell you what it thinks of you. Stand there and look in the mirror so you could hear it coming back. There’s a song, “How Could Anyone Ever Tell You?”, that makes everyone I know cry when they hear it: “How could anyone ever tell you, you were anything less than beautiful? How could anyone ever tell you, you were less than whole? How could anyone fail to notice that your loving is a miracle; how deeply you’re connected to my soul.” How about saying those words as you look
in the mirror? “How could anyone ever tell you?” and that means YOU. That’s the first person where the violence needs to stop. We need to find the peace within ourselves.

There’s a peace inside of us that’s unchanging, that’s transcendent. I love the passage where Jesus said to his disciples, “Let not your hearts be troubled. Do not be afraid. My peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you.” That was a promise. Perhaps some of you might not have read the Bible in a long time. I recommend pulling it out and seeing the promises. MY PEACE I GIVE TO YOU. It’s yours. It’s yours already. Are you willing to accept it? Are you willing to take it or are you hell bent on living the way
you want to live, putting yourself down? I have given you a gift. Do you want to use it or not? That’s what I hear happening here. So many of us are in effect saying that we’d rather live in pain and suffering, and would really rather focus on the things that aren’t working in life. Sometimes I think I do that. I wonder why I would rather focus on what’s not working rather than on the gift that I’ve been given? So, focusing on the Qualities of God is an opportunity to focus on that gift that has already
been given to us.

Law of Attraction – The Experience of PEACE

Peace is also an experience. It is the experience that happens when everything is in perfect timing, just as it should be. This is a big one and it helps you to see why you need to focus on this for a year. Just accepting things as they are is peaceful. The minute we feel like we have to fix things we know that something is wrong. Is there anything in your life you are trying to fix or change?  Anything in the experience of your work? Just think about what so many of us say then. It’s often something
like “This isn’t right! It’s got to be different.” And the minute we think it’s got to be different, we lose our feeling of peace.

So, what if we become aware of that feeling and really began to believe that there is a divine order to this Universe? There is an infinite Power in this Universe and it knows exactly what needs to be happening exactly when it needs to be happening. And what if we become aware that nothing is apart from God, or as someone else said, “I like to spell God with two o’s (GOOD)”, and there’s nothing apart from good? If I really get that, then I stay in the experience of peace. The minute I feel like something’s got
to change, I lose peace. Peace doesn’t mean that everything is going to go the way I like it. Peace doesn’t mean that everything is necessarily what we call “going well”. Peace is the experience of knowing that there is a Divine Presence and a Divine Power and it is all Good and that knowing is underneath everything, even what may look like chaos on the outside. That’s a really important distinction.

Peace doesn’t mean that suddenly when you say, “I choose peace.” you get it. Why don’t I experience it at every single moment? There’s a big difference between feelings and emotions. And the war may rage. Things may happen. I’ve had a hard week! Let me tell you all about it. All the little stuff, every single thing, that could have possibly caused me to lose my peace happened. Nothing major, thank God. Every phone call was somebody who was upset about something. You know, those silly things that aren’t yet finished
around the house. I had a choice, constantly, to go with how my emotions were carrying me at the moment or to go with the feeling of peace. The Course in Miracles says it profoundly, “I could choose peace instead of this.”

Law of Attraction – The Feeling of PEACE

What if we could have only one wish and it would be for peace? What would it look like?  What would happen when we focused on that quality? What would a spiritual practice based in peace look like on a daily basis? Let’s begin by asking ourselves, “What is peace?” How would we define it?

The first definition that I really resonate with is that peace is the feeling that accompanies the knowing of Truth. When something is true you get that clunk in your stomach that says, “Ah, yes!” and that’s when you know that you know something. It is the test that lets you know that you are following God’s will. How do you know when you know? It feels peaceful. Isn’t that true? When you are trying to make a decision, but you are not quite sure it is the right decision, you’ll go down one path in your mind and
it will get you all agitated. Then you go down another path in your mind until that feeling says, “Ah, yes!” and that’s when you know.

What’s it like when you hear truth? Do you feel peace when people are arguing? No. But, when you start hearing the Truth, even if it is something you don’t quite grasp yet, something in you just feels it; something in you knows. We are using the word feeling here as a deep belief, a deep knowing, a deep understanding that there is Truth present. When you know something, that’s pretty automatic, isn’t it? It’s not something we need to figure out. Peace is the natural state of our being, because the natural state
of our being is to live in Truth.
